UNDERSTANDING YOUR AUTO INSURANCE
According to Insure.com, Washington and Oregon have insurance rates that are below the United States averages. Average rates for the United States were $1,503 per year. Washington’s average was $1,499 and Oregon’s $1,333.
The most expensive place to insure a car was in Michigan at a cost of $2,551 per year (driven up, perhaps by Detroit-the most expensive city to insure a car because over 60% of its population was uninsured and its essentially unlimited PIP coverage). The cheapest place-Ohio at $926 per year.
The statistics were based upon rates from six large carriers (Allstate, Farmers, GEICO, Nationwide, Progressive and State Farm) in 10 ZIP codes per state. Rates were compiled in January 2014 and were for a 40 year old male, with a good driving record, good credit, 12 miles to work each day, purchasing 100/300/50 coverage’s ($100,000 per person, $300,000 per accident, $50,000 in property damage with standard PIP (Personal injury coverage) and UIM (underinsured motorists coverage), with a $500 deductible on Collision and Comprehensive coverage.
