SCHOOL IS STARTING: GIVE THEM A BRAKE

School-Zone

School is starting.  There will be kids in the crosswalks around town.  Please slow down.  Some of these kids will be attending school for the first time.  They can be anxious standing on the sidewalk waiting to cross. They can be jumpy.  They can dart.  Older kids think that they know when it is safe.  Sometimes they don’t.

School zones are 20 MPH zones when school is in session.  School zones can be in places where you don’t even see a school.  There are school zone crosswalks for kids that cross Mill Plain, St. Johns, 4th Plain and other major streets in our area.  The schools are often times a block or two off these major streets—but the schools are there! If there is a sign that it is a school zone—it is one.  Slow down–Do it for the kids!

And just to remind you—do it for your pocket book.  The Vancouver Police Department has made it clear that there will be “emphasis” patrols near school zones – that means tickets for those that don’t obey the school zone speed limits. So watch out for school kids as you watch out for your wallet.
