NEW OREGON LAW CHANGES CAR SEAT REQUIREMENTS FOR KIDS

Last month, a new law was signed by Governor Kate Brown stating that kids ages two and under must ride in a rear-facing car seat. [The previous law stated that children ages one and under must ride in a rear-facing car seat.]
The article, “New Oregon law changes car seat requirements for kids” published by Nina Mehlhaf at KGW News, states “Dr. Hoffman says when the seat is rear-facing, it absorbs the shock and the child’s spine, head and neck stay aligned.”
The article also notes that the police and sheriffs throughout Portland are now paying particular attention to what way the car seats are facing, and it will be a second violation with a ticket of $250.00.
There is nothing more important than a person’s health – particularly a child’s life. To the extent this law helps keep them healthy – we are all for it.
